Hold.
Talk. Let go.
Everything Scribe does, step by step. No window to open, nothing to copy afterwards.
Hold a key and talk
Click into any text field: Mail, Slack, a browser, a terminal. Hold your talk shortcut. A small floating bar shows your words as they arrive. Let go and the text is typed at your cursor; your clipboard is put back.
| Hold the shortcut | Dictate. Text is typed when you let go. |
|---|---|
| + Shift | Hands-free. Return finishes, Esc cancels. |
| + ⌘ | Refine. Clean writing in the tone you chose. |
| Select text, then + ⌘ | Edit the selection. Say what to change. |
From rambling to clear
Add ⌘ during the hold. When you let go, the bar reads "Refining…" and what lands is clean writing in the tone you chose: Natural, Casual, Formal or Code. If the rewrite fails or takes more than 20 seconds, the cleaned transcript is inserted instead. Nothing is lost.
Select text first and your dictation becomes an instruction: "shorter", "make it a list", "translate to French".

On iPhone, type or talk
Scribe is a full keyboard laid out like Apple's. Type as usual; when speaking is quicker, tap the Scribe key, then Talk. Your words appear in the keyboard as you speak; tap Done and the whole sentence is inserted into the app you are in.
iOS keyboards can't use the microphone, so the first Talk opens Scribe for a moment to start listening and you swipe back. After that the mic stays ready for five minutes (you choose: off, 1, 5 or 15), so the next Talk is instant. A Live Activity shows the countdown and an End button.
Nothing leaves the device
Speech recognition runs on your Mac or iPhone with Apple's on-device engine. Refine runs with Apple Intelligence, or with the optional Gemma 4 model running locally. The only network use is model downloads you start and Mac update checks you turn on.
A call becomes a transcript and a summary
Choose Record meeting during any call. Scribe captures your microphone and the call's audio, transcribes both, labels turns as You and Speaker 1, 2, 3, and writes a short summary with action items. Rename speakers, add notes, play the audio back, copy or export.
On iPhone, record in-person meetings with the microphone, up to four hours. iOS does not let apps capture other apps' call audio. Always ask before you record.
