Backup, export and import

Save your notes, meetings, Dictionary, Snippets and Corrections to one file, and bring them into Scribe on another device.

What a backup contains

Export Library… writes a single .scribebackup package containing:

  • all notes, with their original text and edit history;
  • all meetings, with transcripts, speakers, summaries and notes, plus the audio of any meeting where it was kept;
  • your Dictionary, Snippets and Corrections.

Settings are not included; they take a minute to set up again and some are device-specific. Items in Recently Deleted are not included either.

Export

  • Mac: Settings › History & Privacy › Export Library…, then choose where to save the file.
  • iPhone: Settings › History › Export Library…, then save to Files or share it to another device with AirDrop.

The file leaves your device only if you move it. Keep it somewhere safe; it contains everything you dictated.

Import

  1. Open Settings › History & Privacy (Mac) or Settings › History (iPhone).
  2. Choose Import Backup… and pick the .scribebackup file.
  3. Scribe merges it into your Library.

Importing never deletes anything. Items that exist on both sides are matched by their identity, and the more recently modified copy wins. Importing the same backup twice changes nothing.

Move between Mac and iPhone

Scribe has no account and no sync, so this is how notes travel: export on one device, AirDrop the file to the other, import. Mac and iPhone keep separate Dictionaries and Snippets; importing brings those across too.

Common problems

“Not enough space” while importing. A backup with kept meeting audio can be large. Free up space and try again.

Nothing changed after the import. Everything in the file was already in your Library, or older than what you have. That is expected.
