Meetings on iPhone
Record in-person meetings with the microphone for up to four hours, then read speakers, a summary and action items on your iPhone.
iPhone only.
Record an in-person meeting
- Open the Library on the Dictate tab and tap Record in the toolbar.
- The recording sheet says Ask everyone for permission before you record. Recording laws vary by country. It also offers Tell speakers apart, a one-time 13.7 MB model download.
- Tap Start recording.
iPhone records the microphone only. iOS does not let an app capture other apps’ call audio. To record both sides of an online call, use Meetings on Mac.
Recording needs at least 1 GB free; otherwise Scribe says Not enough space to record. Free up 1 GB and try again.
While recording
A full-screen view shows the elapsed time, the microphone level, Pause and Stop. Tap Minimise to keep recording while you use the phone; the Library shows a Recording · 12:04 banner you can tap to come back. Recording continues with the screen locked or Scribe in the background.
The Lock Screen Live Activity has Pause, Resume and Stop, and a coral dot in the Dynamic Island. Phone calls and Siri take the microphone; Scribe pauses and resumes when iOS lets it. If it can’t resume on its own, a notification says Meeting paused. Tap to resume.
Limits
Meetings stop and process at four hours; a Stops in 10 min notice appears before that. Recording also stops, and processes what it has, when the battery drops to 5 % or free space falls under 100 MB.
Finish and process
Tap Stop. Scribe saves the audio, transcribes it, identifies speakers when the model is installed, and writes a summary with action items. Processing can continue in the background with system progress; if iOS pauses the work, the meeting shows Paused processing and resumes the next time you open Scribe.
The summary follows your Refine engine setting. Gemma 4 runs while the app is in the foreground; background summarisation uses Apple Intelligence.
Read, edit and share
Open the meeting in the Library. Read the summary, add notes, and tap a transcript turn to edit it. Tap a speaker name to rename it. Timestamps on speaker-labelled turns jump to that point in the audio when it was kept; see Meeting audio playback.
Copy offers Summary, Transcript or Everything; Share exports Markdown or plain text. Update summary regenerates the summary after edits; Retry transcription reprocesses the audio.
Settings › Meetings
- Show reminder before recording.
- Keep recordings’ audio: off by default. Audio is removed after processing unless this is on.
- Speaker detection · 13.7 MB: download or delete the speaker model.
Everything is processed on the iPhone. No recording, transcript or summary is uploaded.
Common problems
The recording stopped by itself. Check the time limit and the battery and storage limits above. What was recorded is processed normally.
“The microphone stopped delivering audio.” Another app or a call took the microphone and it did not come back. Reopen the recording and tap Resume, or Stop to process what you have.
Everyone is “Speaker 1”. Install the speaker model under Settings › Meetings, then choose Retry transcription.
