Updates on Mac

Check for a new Mac release when you want to, or turn on a once-a-day automatic check.

Mac only.

Check for updates

Choose Check for Updates… from the Scribe menu in the menu bar. Scribe asks scribe.nanthai.tech whether a newer version exists and, if so, shows the release notes and a button to install it. Updates are downloaded over HTTPS and verified before they are installed.

The iPhone app updates through the App Store like any other app.

Automatic checks

Automatic checks are off by default. To turn them on, open Settings › General and switch on Check for updates automatically. When on, Scribe asks once a day and sends nothing else: no device profile, no usage data.

Besides the model downloads you start, this update check is the only network request the Mac app can make, and only when you start it or turn it on.

Common problems

The update won’t install. Quit Scribe, open the latest DMG from the download page and drag the app over the old one in Applications. Your notes, Dictionary and settings are kept; they live in Application Support, not in the app.
